LGBT fostering and adoption week 2019

Family Fostering Partners are delighted to be able to highlight the fact that the first full week of March is LGBT Fostering and Adoption week. This is a great opportunity to spread the word about some of the amazing work members of the LGBT community do in improving the lives of children in care. It is also an opportunity to dispel some of the persistent myths regarding fostering. Myths that stop people from following their dream of becoming foster parents and helping vulnerable children.

Many people still wrongly believe that their sexuality will be a hindrance to their ability to become foster parent, but this could not be further from the truth. Although there are no statistics for the percentage of same sex couples who foster, the figure for adoptive parents in Wales is 1 in every 7.

As an agency we love any opportunity to raise awareness of how your sexual orientation will not hinder you from becoming a carer, and we have plenty more information about the fostering process on our website. We are proud to have supported our local LGBT outreach programs through sponsoring and attending events such as the Llanelli LGBT day.

So whether you are gay, straight, bisexual, single, married, or in a relationship, if you are thinking about fostering there really  is no time like the present. Family Fostering Partners are passionate about children and love any opportunity share as much information as possible about fostering; the process of becoming a foster parent; the great work that our foster carers do, and the difference that great foster carers can make to the lives of children across Wales.

P.S. If you are organising LGBT events in Wales and would like to have a foster care agency attend and support, then you can always get in touch and we will do our best to help.
