How to Give Back to Your Local Community: Become a Foster Carer in Wales

How to Give Back to Your Local Community: Become a Foster Carer in Wales

become a foster carer

Foster parents in Wales often cite ‘giving back to the community’ as one of the driving factors for their decision. At Family Fostering Partners, we could not agree more, becoming a foster carer is one of most rewarding ways to make a difference. Aside from the positive impact on your community, becoming a foster carer is a life-changing way to provide care, support, and stability to children who need it most. At Family Fostering Partners, we specialise in training and supporting foster carers, helping them to thrive in this meaningful role.

Ways to Give Back to Your Community

There are countless ways to contribute positively to your local community, such as volunteering, fundraising, or supporting local businesses. If you are interested in fostering with a local, family run fostering agency, we might be the agency for you!

We know firsthand that becoming a foster carer offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of children and young people. By opening your home and heart, you can:

  • Provide a safe and loving environment for looked after children.
  • Support the future of your community by helping vulnerable children grow into confident adults.
  • Create lasting memories and connections that benefit both you and the children you care for.

Davin, a care experienced individual tells us why he thinks it’s so important that more people become foster carers “They provide that guidance and support that that young person needs. I think that it's important to become a foster carer, because you can be a parent to those who truly need it, and those who have had a difficult life so far but need that love and support in a family.” Hear more from Davin.

Is There a Demand for Foster Carers?

Yes, the demand for foster carers in Wales is significant, and continues to grow year on year. Many children need safe, nurturing homes and there are simply not enough fostering families to meet this need. Your willingness to become a foster carer can make all the difference in bridging this gap.

Many people are curious about how becoming a foster carer can fit into their current lifestyle. At Family Fostering Partners, we’re always happy to chat about your current circumstance and the type of foster care that might suit you best – be that long term, short term, parent and child or respite care.

Recognising the demand for more foster parents, we have introduced a new financial incentive scheme called ‘Be There To Care’. If you decide to finish your current role to become a foster carer, this scheme is for you!

The Benefits of Becoming a Foster Carer

Fostering is not only beneficial for looked after children; it’s also a deeply enriching experience for foster parents and their wider fostering family. Here are some of the benefits:

  • Personal Fulfilment: Knowing you’re making a lasting impact on a child’s life is incredibly rewarding.
  • Skills Development: As a foster carer, you’ll gain valuable skills, from communication to conflict resolution, that can benefit you in all areas of life. At Family Fostering Partners, you’ll be fully trained and supported in your role. When considering how to become a foster carer, consider the skills you have already gained from your personal or work life and how they could transfer to fostering.
  • Financial Support: Foster carers receive a generous allowance to cover the costs of caring for a child.
  • Community Connection: Joining the FFP fostering community introduces you to like-minded individuals who share your passion for helping children. At Family Fostering Partners, we hold regular peer support groups for this very reason.
